金箔工芸

時間がなかったので、
昨日は金箔貼りの体験まではいきませんでしたが、
どのように金箔ができるのかその工程に
ついてのお話は聞きました。
一枚の１０円玉くらいの金で、
たたみ２枚分ぐらいの金箔ができるのだそうです。
その金箔の薄さは、１万分の１ミリだと言ってましたね。
（私の記憶が正しければ、です）

１０００分の１ミリのうすい金箔を押し伸ばす工程に
必要なのが和紙で、
その和紙は、柿しぶにお茶、それにぬかの汁をつけて
３ヶ月間打ち続けて繊維を強くしたものだそうです。
そのようにして、作られた和紙の間に
金箔をはさんで、
今は機械にかけて打ち伸ばされます。
打ち伸ばされても和紙は、縮むのですけど、
その間の金箔だけが引き伸ばされていくのだとか・・・
その時使われた和紙が、ふるや紙と呼ばれて、
いわゆる、油取紙になるんだそうです。
